Oscar Richard Young, 79, husband of the late Mary Godwin Young and a resident of Atlantic for 46 years, died in Nassawadox on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006.
Born and reared in Grotons, Mr. Young was the son of the late, Milton Young Sr. and Virginia Bonnewell. He was a retired truck driver, a member of Atlantic Baptist Church, served in the Navy during WWII, and was a member of Temperanceville Lodge #121 AF&AM.
A graveside Masonic Service was held at John W. Taylor Cemetery, Temperanceville, on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m.
Mr. Young is survived by a daughter, Sandra Young White of Atlantic; a son, Greg Young of Salisbury, Md.; a sister, Blanche Daniels of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Atlantic Baptist Church.
Arrangements were made by Fox Funeral Home, Temperanceville.

MEARS — Russell J. Young, 79, of Mears died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at his residence.
He was born in Mears to the late Fentress Young and Flora Gladding Young. His wife was the late Geraldine Louise Mears Young.
He was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation and the retired owner of Young’s Old Shop Inc. in Mears. He was an antique and coin dealer for many years. He was a merchant seaman in World War II and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Mears.
He is survived by sons Robert Young and his wife, Bonnie, and Steve Young and his wife, Margaret, all of Mears; grandchildren Jennifer Lewis, Talley Young, Jo Merritt and Joi Lynn Taylor; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley, with the Rev. Jon Cullop officiating. Visitation will be held this evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Wessell’s Cemetery in Mears.

Russell J. Young, 79, husband of the late Geraldine Louise Mears Young and a resident of Mears, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007 at his residence.
Born March 22, 1928, Mr. Young was the son of the late Fentress Young and Flora Gladding Young. NORFOLK - Charles Bourdon "Zeke" Zehmer Jr. died Feb. 18, 2008, at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk after a long illness.
Born in Hampton on May 24, 1939, he grew up in Hilton Village in Newport News. He is predeceased by his father, Charles Bourdon Zehmer Sr., and his mother, Mary Prince Zehmer.
He is survived by Anabel Beatty of Norfolk and her daughters, Lynn Killmon and Anne Beatty, and their children, Christopher Killmon and Mayson Driscoll; his daughter, Cary Zehmer Kelly, son-in-law, Timothy Lee Kelly, and grandson, Timothy Cary Kelly of Hampton; son, Charles Bourdon Zehmer III of Tampa, Fla.; and brothers, Thomas Lee Zehmer of Gloucester and John Adrian McClure Zehmer of Newport News.
He attended Warwick High School later graduating from Augusta Military Academy in Fort Defiance, Va. A member of the Ad Astra Society, he cherished his time at AMA. After graduating from the Newport News Apprentice School, he became a real estate broker and property manager working for various agencies throughout Hampton Roads. He retired from Long & Foster Real Estate Company in 1995. He loved his children and grandchildren and was an avid sports fan. He derived much pleasure from attending his grandson's baseball and basketball games.
A memorial service and garden interment will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Newport News.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Augusta Military Academy Alumni Association, P.O. Box 101, Fort Defiance, VA 24437-0101.

Evelyn Butterworth Zehmer, 92, died on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, after a brief illness.
Born March 22, 1912, the daughter of the late John Thweatt and Aelise Butterworth Zehmer, she was a graduate of Westhampton College in 1932, where she was winner of the singles tennis championship for that year. She began her teaching career at Victoria High School in Lunenburg County and Ebony High School in Brunswick County, but returned to her native Dinwiddie County in 1953, to teach English, Latin and French at Sunnyside-McKenney High School, and later at Dinwiddie County Senior High School. She also coached basketball and tennis, sponsored the Junior Classical League and Beta Club, and served as accompanist to the high school choral societies. Miss Zehmer joined Asbury Methodist Church in 1919 at age seven and served as its organist and choir director for 50 years. She was also president of the Women's Society, a member of the administrative board, chairman of the worship committee, and a Sunday school teacher. For many years she and her mother sponsored the church's Easter egg hunt which was held at their home and open to children in the community. Miss Zehmer was an active member of the McKenney Woman's Club and maintained a lively interest in art, crafts, sports, and literature. Generations of students benefited from her enthusiasm for, and interest in their endeavors. She shared her boundless optimism with everyone.
Contributions may be made in her memory to Asbury Memorial Church, P.O. Box 351, McKenney, Va. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at Asbury Cemetery.

Josephine Zimmerman Custis, 88, wife of the late H. Powell Custis and a resident of Onancock, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox.
Born on July 27, 1917 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mrs. Custis was the daughter of the late James A. and Maida Revell Zimmerman. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she was active in the Altar Guild and Episcopal Church Women, a member of Ye Accawmacke Garden Club, and a longtime volunteer at Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Custis is survived by two sons, Henry P. Custis Jr. and wife Linda and William S. Custis and wife Lola, all of Onancock; four grandchildren, Taylor Custis, Nell Custis, Stewart Custis and wife Michelle and John Custis; one great-grandson, Michael Custis; and one nephew, James A. Zimmerman III. She was predeceased by a brother, James A. Zimmerman Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Onancock today, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. R. J. Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Holly Cemetery in Onancock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 66 Market St., Onancock, VA 23417 or to the Onancock Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 28, Onancock, VA 23417.
